This Fourth of July weekend, some very patriotic pit bulls are available for adoption.
Dozens of pit bulls and pit bull mixes are waiting to find a new home at Animal Care & Control of NYC's Brooklyn center.
During the holiday weekend, residents can adopt one for $17.76, in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Normally, the dogs can range from $75 to $150.
Jessica Vaccaro, with AC&C, says pit bulls are America's most patriotic animals, having been featured in World War I-era posters to promote war bonds. She says there was even a pit bull named Sgt. Stubby, who helped save soldiers in France.
AC&C also has adoption sites in Staten Island and Manhattan.
