A man is recovering after police say an argument turned into a shooting in Sunset Park late Sunday night.

Police say the shooting happened just after 10:15 p.m. in front of 5001 Ninth Ave.

Investigators tell us some kind of a verbal dispute escalated, and a 56-year-old man was shot multiple times in his right arm. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where police say he is stable.

Police have arrested 40-year-old Shao Bin Zheng in connection with the shooting. He is charged with assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Video from the scene shows officers detaining a man in a white shirt before placing him into the back of a police vehicle.

Neighbors told News 12 the sound of gunfire caught them off guard.

"I think it was eight rounds of firing," said Wilson, who lives nearby. "I thought it was gunshots, but in the moment, I thought it was fireworks... we scared, we scared."

Police have not said what the two men were arguing about or what led the dispute to turn violent.

The investigation remains ongoing
