Plans to build an Ikea in Red Hook are starting to move forward.
The Army Corp of Engineers recently gave the project the go ahead. An Ikea spokesperson says the company will set a timetable for the Red Hook piers project by the middle of March. He says numerous projects will begin to stabilize the property and clean up the area before construction begins.
The company has reassured the community historic buildings will not be affected by the construction. Some community members feel the store will be a nuisance to the area. Others feel Ikea will bring more business and jobs to Red Hook.
