A once unassuming lot in Red Hook now boasts hand-carved marble statues, thanks to the Entrance Art Gallery.

Ian Swordy is an artist who spent months of painstaking work on each piece that now fills the neighborhood with art for all to enjoy.

"I just really start carving right in and let what's available in the stone and the way the stone falls off determine what the final form is going to be," said Swordy.

Swordy says he wasn't sure where his artwork was going to go until he got in touch with Entrance's director Louis Shannon, who proposed they transform this community space in Red Hook.

"We'll never have an entry fee," said Shannon. "We would like to use the space for fundraising. We would like to use the space for local community advocacy organizations."

Entrance and Swordy say they're excited by the responses they've received so far and hope that the artwork sticks with people long after they leave the gallery.
