Almost 3,000 Brooklyn residents attended a presentation on the housing plans for the Atlantic Rail Yards project.

Residents lined up early to attend the presentation by the project?s developer, Forest City Ratner. Residents who attended say they are looking to move into a new apartment that will be built. Forest City Ratner says it is responding to the high demand for housing with 7,000 residential units.

The developer says 4,500 of the units will be rental apartments and 50 percent of those rental units will be made available to low, moderate to middle income residents. ACORN representatives working with the developer say the integration will be a model for future developers.

According to Forest City Ratner, approximately 20,000 residents responded to the initial mailing showing interest in the housing. Eventually, tenants will be chosen based on a lottery system. The application process for the lottery has not yet begun.
