The Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is investigating the death of the man fatally shot by police in Brooklyn.
Jumaane Right, 28, of Pennsylvania was shot by police during an encounter on April 29 on the Belt Parkway. Officers attempted to stop Right upon discovering the Porsche he was driving had stolen plates but he drove away. Police did not pursue but alerted other officers in the area, who set up a roadblock.
Right attempted to drive into police cars on Seaview Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue and an officer fired a shot, hitting him on the torso. He was taken to One Brooklyn Health in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.
The interaction was recorded on police body camera, which has not yet been released. Police also say that Right was on federal probation for interstate transport of stolen vehicles out of Pennsylvania.
Right also had a passenger in the vehicle who was taken into custody.
The OSI investigates all police-civilian involved deaths.
