One juvenile has been taken into custody, and three others
are wanted for questioning by Middletown police, for a shots-fired incident.
Authorities say they received
multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Genung Street and
Phillips Street on Monday around 1:45 p.m.
They say officers canvassed
the area and while they did not locate any suspects or victims, several shell
casings were found on the roadway.
While patrolling the area around the
incident, Officers Andrew Sciandra and Kelly Conklin located four juvenile
suspects matching the description that was provided by witnesses at the entrance
to a wooded trail on an adjacent section of Phillips Street.
One of the suspects fled the scene
on foot,
but was quickly apprehended by the officers. The three others fled
into the wooded are in an unknown direction.
Officers from the surrounding towns,
along with state police, K-9 units and a police helicopter, were
brought
in for the search, but were unsuccessful in finding the remaining suspects.
Officials say there doesn’t appear
to be any property damage or injuries that resulted from the shooting.
Because of the age of the suspect
who was apprehended, his identity will not be released.
Anyone who may have witnessed the
incident or has information is asked to call the Middletown Police Department
at 845-343-3151 or text the anonymous tip line “TIP MIDDLETOWN” to 888777.
