The Aviator Sports Complex in Marine Park may be at risk of closing if the National Park Service (NPS) does not renew its lease by April 14.

For many families, the complex is more than just a facility, it’s a second home.

After enduring temporary closures during the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over a nearby shelter, parents and athletes now face another challenge: the possibility of losing the space entirely.

The facility serves a wide range of sports groups across the city, including volleyball, hockey and gymnastics.

Marie Raico, a parent and volleyball coach, emphasized the importance of keeping the facility open.

“The NPS has the ability to help keep the doors open. Let’s work together. Isn’t that what it’s all about?” Raico said. “Let’s figure out how to get it done, not for anyone else but for the kids and the communities that it serves.”

News 12 reached out to the NPS, which said it is working on a response regarding the lease renewal.
