A power outage at West 4th Street in Manhattan Sunday morning left the B and D trains suspended for hours, and partially suspended on the D, F, C and M trains as MTA crews worked to respond to the outage.
Frustrated commuters were left stranded on platforms, piling into alternate train routes to make their connections, including Tsomo, who left her Manhattan Apartment at 8:30 a.m. heading to Brooklyn. At 11:30 a.m., it had only made it as far as Atlantic Terminal.
"It's three hours, my boss is nice she said 'Find another train, it's OK, it's no fun, it's too hot,'" she said.
Others were already on the trains for their morning commute when service stopped.
"I was stuck for 20 minutes not moving on the C. I was 45 minutes late to an appointment," said C train passenger Itsy.
Throughout the day, the Q train line ran on both sides of the platform at Atlantic Terminal, and while passengers were moving, many told 12 the cars were far hotter and more packed than usual.
"It was like being in a sardine can, and then I had a very long and hot wait on the R train platform," said R train passenger Anthony.
As of 5:30 p.m., service resumed on the B train. However, the MTA says that A,C,E, B, D, F and M trains remain severely delayed in both directions, with the N, Q, R and W trains also facing fewer major delays.
Commuters are not out of the woods yet, as severe rain on the forecast could also cause delays and raise concerns of flooding.
In response to the outage, Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a statement saying:
"I’ve directed the MTA to undergo a full review of this week’s issues to prevent similar outages in the future," as well as issuing a state of emergency ahead of the weather conditions.
