More than 300 balloons flew into the air Tuesday in Crown Heights in honor of a Montgomery Academy student who police say died at his mother?s hands.
Officials at the school remember 9-year-old Knil Jean Noel as a kind, playful child. They say they wanted to honor his memory. Family members and friends mourned the boy Sunday at a funeral.
Twenty-seven-year-old Sadier Jean Noel, who is in the hospital, faces charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say Jean Noel confessed to smothering her child because she heard demons. She is recovering after a failed suicide attempt in which she apparently jumped in front of a train.
