A man who barricaded himself inside a Warwick home following a domestic incident with his father was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities say the incident began around 7:20 a.m. at a home on Airport Road. The father called police for help at about 9:30 a.m.

Police say the suspect, a man in his 20s, barricaded himself inside the home following the domestic incident. Warwick police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded, with negotiators working to get him to come out peacefully.

Police say the father suffered minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene. The suspect was eventually taken into custody after an hourslong standoff with law enforcement and transported to Garnet Health for an evaluation.

Warwick police say they expect to release additional information Friday morning.
