A Brooklyn basketball court was renamed Wednesday in honor of the late Notorious B.I.G.
The community officially named the Christopher Biggie Wallace courts in honor of the Brooklyn native.
The rapper’s success was cut short when he was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997.
City Councilman Robert Cornegy says the entire basketball court is brand-new, and the dedication was a promise he made to Biggie’s mother. He says it will not impact the name of the entire playground, which is called Crispus Attucks.
Even though he was murdered in 1997, the community says they are excited to see the courts being dedicated to someone from the neighborhood who was successful.
