Bath Beach celebrates Lunar New Year

The Bath Beach community kicked off celebrations to welcome the Lunar New Year.

Sen. Iwen Chu and the Federation of Italian American Organizations teamed up with South Brooklyn residents for the festivities which featured dance performances.

Organizers said the Year of the Dragon symbolizes strength, prosperity, good fortune along with wisdom and power.

Chu said next Sunday is the first day of the official Lunar New Year but this weekend's event was meant to start the monthlong celebration.

News 12's MaryLyn Buckley was at the event where she spoke with revelers, performers and organizers.
