One Brooklyn homeowner is fed up with the city's response to a tree causing damage to her property - claiming it's the city's responsibility to keep up with the maintenance of the tree. The city has a different opinion.
Phyllis Beradi says the massive tree in front of her Bath Beach home hasn’t been pruned in years and is causing structural damage.
She reached out to 311 once she noticed the tree's branches getting longer. Her complaints went unheard – so she contacted Assemblymember William Colton. He says he reached out to the Parks Department in 2019 and they said she should pay to get the tree pruned.
“If the homeowner wants to hire a private contractor, they can apply to us for a permit and will let them hire a private contractor,” says Colton.
Berardi says she’s worried about safety hazards like fires, or branches knocking out windows in during bad weather.
The Parks Department told News 12 it is looking into the details surrounding the issue.
