A re-enactment took residents back to the 18th century with a look at the battlefield in the Revolutionary War’s Battle of Brooklyn.

Green-Wood Cemetery was one of the sites of the battle in 1776, and it hosted Sunday’s event, commemorating the 241st anniversary of the largest battle of the American Revolution.

Actors representing revolutionaries and the British brought history to life.

The battle began when the British landed on Staten Island, then attacked into Brooklyn. The battle, which was the first after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, ended in a tactical victory for the British, but ended up being a strategic loss because they were unable to capture the American army.

Brooklyn residents of all ages came out to Sunday’s event, getting the chance to take pictures with the actors dressed as several iconic figures like George Washington.
