Bay Ridge residents are reviewing several proposals put together by the Department of Transportation that aim to improve pedestrian safety between two intersections.

The Third Avenue corridor between 99th Street and Marine Avenue is the area in question, as residents say there are conflicts with turning vehicles, street angles and long pedestrian crosswalks.

Five proposals by the DOT have been put together to combat this issue as residents give their input on what they think will keep people safe. Proposals include reversing the direction of some one-way streets, shortening pedestrian crosswalks or adding stoplights.

Representatives from Bronx Community Board 10 say they've been working with the DOT for over a year on the matter, while taking input from the community.

While this process is far from over and decided, residents here told News 12 that they take pedestrian safety seriously and want to continue the discussion.
