A proposed electric vehicle charging station just steps from P.S. 104 in Bay Ridge is sparking outrage among residents who say it could pose safety risks for children, as well as worsen traffic.
The EV charging site is planned for the corner of 92nd Street and Fifth Avenue, directly across from the school.
Residents gathered outside the location Monday to protest the plan, saying their concern isn’t with electric vehicles themselves, but with the site’s proximity to young students.
The company behind the installation, EVgo, did not directly address fire safety concerns raised by parents and neighbors.
However, in a statement, EVgo said the project is intended to help meet the growing demand for public EV charging and support New York state’s zero-emission goals.
