A
Bayonne nurse who was violently shoved in Times Square has died.
According
to officials, she was knocked down after Jermaine Foster took a cellphone from
another woman and ran off.
Foster, of Irvington, is facing a murder charge after charges against him were upgraded on Sunday.
According to published reports, she was in
Times Square to see her family for the first time since the pandemic. Ambrocio clung to life for a day
and a half.
Bayonne
Mayor Jimmy Davis says Ambrocio was an oncology nurse at Bayonne Medical
Center.
Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) President Debbie White, RN, and John Bauer, RN, President of HPAE Local 5185 issued the following statement:
Our
HPAE family is in deep mourning today after the tragic death of Maria Ambrocio,
an HPAE Local 5185 member who worked in the Oncology unit at Bayonne Medical
Center. Ambrocio was critically injured during a street mugging at New York
City's Times Square on Friday. Unfortunately, she passed away at Bellevue
Hospital on the evening of Saturday, October 9th.
Ambrocio
was an active HPAE member for 21 years and was well known in the hospital and
in the Bayonne community. She is remembered as a loving, kind-hearted nurse who
gave her all for her patients. We are left with a hole in our hearts this
morning as we try to come to terms with her untimely death.
HPAE
members have suffered so much throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our union will
be connecting members with grief counseling.
