Bed-Stuy Aquarium could become permanent

The Bed-Stuy Aquarium may no longer be home to any fish, but the community is now determined to bring it back - this time, for good.
ICE, a Bed-Stuy native who helped create the original pond that gained national attention, said it served its purpose, despite the challenges it faced.
"Put chairs out and books for kids. It's a Brooklyn thing. Bed-Stuy for life," ICE said.
ICE isn’t alone in wanting to preserve the experience.
Many in the community have expressed their desire to restore the aquarium as a permanent feature, according to recent posts on its Instagram page.
The founders are aiming to rebuild and establish a lasting pond by June - with support from the city Parks Department.
"I'd love to see that partnership growing," said on Bred-Stuy Resident.
A spokesperson for the city Parks Department confirmed that officials are planning to meet with the organizers to assess the site and determine next steps.
"A little thing from nothing turned out to be this big thing," ICE said, reflecting on the project's growth.
For ICE, the pond became more than just a local attraction, it became a symbol of community unity.
"It shows the unity of Bed-Stuy and the people coming here can see that. Bed-Stuy for life," he said.
