A Bedford-Stuyvesant woman, accused of turning a blind eye while her husband allegedly killed her daughter, will be tried separately from her husband.
Nixzaliz Santiago appeared in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn Wednesday for a pretrial motion. Her attorney Robert Abrams confirmed that Santiago will not be tried with Cesar Rodriguez, but denies reports that she will get a plea deal for testifying against her husband. Santiago has undergone a mental evaluation, which her attorney is trying to keep from the DA because he feels it will undermine her defense. Abrams says Rodriguez suffered as a beaten wife.
Authorities say Santiago and Rodriguez left 7-year-old Nixzmary Brown to die in their apartment in January. Medical exams revealed that Brown was malnourished, had bruises and was sexually abused.
