A Bedford-Stuyvesant block was named the greenest in the borough for the second time in four years.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, along with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other groups, announced the winner of the 13th Annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest Tuesday.

Volunteer judges picked MacDonough Street, between Lewis and Stuyvesant avenues, out of more than 200 entries. The block can be described as a garden, with plants growing everywhere from front stoops to light posts.

"The block likes to take care of the neighborhood to make sure it's a good looking area," said resident Lorenzo Bryan. "It's a family environment."

A stretch of Hoyt Street, just north of Atlantic Avenue, won the prize for greenest commercial block.

Organizers said the Brooklyn Botanic Garden contest is aimed at promoting a more environmentally sound borough. They also said crime rates tend to drop on blocks that beautify their foliage to compete in the contest.
