Bed-Stuy community responds to playground shooting with rally
Community advocates held an anti-violence rally Friday night, just days after a 13-year-old girl was shot while sitting in the park.
Dozens turned out to St. Andrew's Playground in Bed-Stuy to condemn the act that sent Lavae Flowers to the hospital. Sources say the teen was hit by a stray bullet when gunfire erupted in the park Wednesday.
Community leaders say it was the third shooting at the park in the matter of months. Local clergy, police and residents joined in the call for safety.
In a surprise appearance, Flowers visited the event, just hours removed from leaving the hospital.
Meanwhile, the hunt continues for the teen suspected of pulling the trigger. Investigators say he was last seen wearing green pants and a white shirt running down Herkimer Street.
