Fortunoff will be celebrating 100 years of being a family business this year.
News 12's Mackenzie Maynard spoke with Esther Fortunoff-Green, the president and CEO of Fortunoff Fine Jewelry, in celebration of Women's History Month.
Fortunoff-Green had been in the business from a young age but as she got older, her experiences grew beyond the sales floor and to international countries with her parents.
She realized that following in her mother's footsteps was not going to be easy, and discovered that women have to work harder to be recognized.
"To be the only woman in the room, you have to have a little fortitude," Fortunoff-Green says.
The Fortunoff business closed in 2009 and Fortunoff-Green then opened Fortunoffjewlery.com.
She also opened her own boutique but closed it down during the pandemic.
The stores have changed zip codes, storefronts and products, but Fortunoff-Greene has continued to sell jewelry to customers throughout the years.
She says it's a career that she is proud to have been a part of.
"It's really, very nice to be a part of something that generally is something good and joyful," she says.
Fortunoff-Green tells News 12 that she is now focus on giving back. She works with The Safe Center, The Long Island Business Association and theater boards.
