A local group in Belmont is organizing a formal relief effort for victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Italy Monday.
The Belmont Local Development Corporation is teaming with community organizers, business owners and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to raise money that can help families devastated by the earthquake.
The official toll from the quake stands at more than 200 dead, 15 missing and about 1,000 injured.
