A well-liked rabbi was laid to rest Wednesday after he died in a fire at his Borough Park home.Fire officials say the blaze broke out Tuesday around 4 p.m. at Chaim Weintraub's 53rd Street home. It took nearly 60 firefighters more than 30 minutes to bring the flames under control.
Authorities say the elderly rabbi, whose home attendant had briefly left, died as a result of fire-related injuries and smoke inhalation.
The Talmudic scholar taught at the Yeshiva Karlin Stolin. Friends describe him as a dedicated teacher for more than 20 years. He leaves behind a wife and several children.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it doesn?t appear suspicious.
