Plans for a new waste transfer station on the Brooklyn waterfront has some Bensonhurst homeowners feeling dumped on by the city.
The City Council and Community Board 11 approved the station, which will be built at E. 41st Street and 26th Avenue. Council member Domenic Recchia Jr. (D-Bensonhurst) was one of five councilors to vote against the plan. Recchia says area residents have suffered for years with a garbage incinerator and don?t need the added worry of traffic jams and rats. Homeowners argue that Community Board 11 approved the plan because many members don?t live near the proposed garbage site.
District Manager Howard Feuer says the Belt Parkway will separate the site from homes and promises a commission will oversee the transfer station.
