Tenants at a Berger Street building protested possible evictions Thursday in an attempt to keep their homes.
Renters at 533 Berger St. say their landlords are offering buyouts to several tenants to avoid the eviction process. One tenant has lived in the building for more than 20 years, paying only $400 a month. She says she can't afford to live anywhere else.Lawyers representing the tenants admit, in this case, the landlords have a legal right to vacate the apartments. They say the law allows landlords to seize apartments for personal use.
