The Right Direction featuring Missy Lee, a Bed-Stuy rhythm and blues group that's been harmonizing for decades, went viral after a chance encounter at a subway stop.
The lineup has changed since the group got together 47 years ago, but most of the current members were singing at the 34th Street-Herald Square station in Manhattan when a passerby recorded the performance.
"We were singing, and this lady stopped, and we were used to it because people take pictures of us," says Burton McClerklin. "And she videotaped us."
The resulting video got more than 4 million views on Facebook.
The quartet performed at churches and clubs until a few years ago, when members heard they could make more money performing in the subway system. Adele Lee, the only member who was not present at the time, says she's proud of her groupmates.
Straphangers might find them singing around town on Saturdays.
