The Jewish holiday of Purim, which commemorates the saving of Jews living in the ancient Persian Empire, began Wednesday night.
Brooklyn sculptor Alex Aronov is making artisan graggers to help celebrate.
Graggers are wooden noisemakers that Jewish people clap together to celebrate the holiday.
Aronov's graggers are made from recycled wood taken from tables at Masbia Soup Kitchen in Flatbush. The proceeds from their sales will go back to Masbia.
Graggers are often made from plastic or metal, but Aronov says wood is the way to go.
