Officials honored the oldest living former fire chief in New York City at his former firehouse in Brownsville Monday.
Orlence Orvis, 95, served for 30 years before retiring. He used to be in command at the 44th Battalion Firehouse.
During the 1970s, some firefighters say the station was one of the busiest in the city, answering more than 10,000 calls in 1971 alone.
Orvis retired in 1976 and has since lived near his family in Queens.
