Bicyclist dies after colliding with truck in Bushwick
A woman died after she collided with a fuel truck while riding her bike in Bushwick, according to police.
The incident happened around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a fuel truck was heading north on Evergreen Avenue when it began making a left turn onto Hart Street as the cyclist was riding north on Evergreen in the bike lane, and the two collided.
Police arrived on scene to find the woman, identified as 27-year-old Leah Sylvain, of Connecticut, lying on the pavement with head trauma. She was taken to Woodhull Hospital and pronounced dead.
The truck driver, 52-year-old Joseph Cherry, was arrested at the scene and faces charges including failure to yield.
