Thousands of Big Blue fans crammed into lower Manhattan's Canyon of Heroes Tuesday for a ticker-tape Super Bowl victory parade.
Giants faithful held banners and tossed paper into the air as confetti fell onto the streets. Team members even videotaped the parade. Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined players on their float as defensive end Michael Strahan held up their trophy.Fans said dealing with the crowds and rainy weather was well worth it. One mother said she allowed her kids to take part in the fun after they all became too "sick" to attend school.
The Giants beat the New England Patriots Sunday in Glendale, Ariz., to capture the Super Bowl XLII title. With 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Eli Manning threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress. The wide receiver gave Big Blue a 17-14 win.The ticker-tape parade is New York's first since the Yankees won the World Series in 2000.
Bloomberg later presented the Giants a key to the city at a ceremony on the steps of City Hall. Team players, team owners, Gov. Eliot Spitzer and Whoopi Goldberg were just a few to attend the City Hall ceremony.
