A free bike sharing app is gaining ground with cyclists in the city.

Bike owners on 'Spinlister' can choose their own rates and period of time they want to rent out their bikes for. Bike seekers can use the app's map to find available bikes nearby.

Some cyclists say Spinlister is a great alternative to Citi Bike because you are only allotted a half-hour or 45 minutes to use a particular Citi Bike, depending on the type of membership you have. Others say they are skeptical of the app because of the possibility that a lister's bike could be stolen.

Spinlister does perform background checks and requires all users to link to a bank account. They also guarantee reimbursement for damages or theft.
