The Billie Holiday Theatre in Bedford-Stuyvesant is one of dozens of Brooklyn cultural institutions getting city funding to help with renovations.
It will receive new carpeting, chairs and theatrical lighting as part of its first renovation in its 42-year history.
Other sites getting funds include the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
The Billie Holiday Theatre emerged out of the civil rights movement, and many tell News 12 it has become a space to affirm the beauty of a culture.
