After months of uncertainty, an agreement between the Aviator Sports Complex's new owner and the National Park Service has allowed ice hockey players and figure skaters to return to the rink as of last Friday.

However, gymnastics and other indoor sports programs have not resumed, leaving many athletes without a place to train.

Heather Volik, a parent with children involved in both hockey and gymnastics, said the situation has been emotionally challenging for her family.

"We have one kid who is excited and thinking about next season and wanting to get on the ice with his friends, and we have another kid who is devastated that she can’t be in gymnastics," Volik said.

For now, ice hockey and figure skating operations will continue at Aviator.

A final decision regarding the future of the rest of the facility is still pending.
