A booming Brooklyn economy and health care topped Borough President Marty Markowitz's State of the Borough address Thursday.

Markowitz delivered his annual address at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He touted the borough's growing tourism business, the opening of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook and the $4 billion Atlantic Yards project.He also looked to the borough's future economy. Markowitz plans to create an outdoor concert venue and renovate a vacant Flatbush theater. He said he wants to keep housing affordable and create a vocational high school for advertising.

Markowitz renewed his commitment to health initiatives by promising to clean Newtown Creek, which was polluted during the Greenpoint oil spill cleanup effort. He also pledged to improve access to health care for Brooklyn residents.The city has allocated about $58 million to manage the borough this year.
