Tenants were evacuated from 1568 Sterling Place Tuesday night after a staircase collapsed.
New York City Housing Authority crews were working to fix the stairs Wednesday. Police evacuated 50 tenants after the collapse. Those tenants are staying at a nearby school and a hotel until they are allowed back into the four-story building.
Some tenants say they had complained to the city about the broken stairs before the collapse. However, city officials say they have no complaints on record.
NYCHA expects to have the tenants back in the building by Thursday evening.
