The sanitation department was hard at work plowing, sanding and salting all major roads in Brooklyn for the Monday morning commute. However, many commuters used mass transit for a safe ride.
The weekend snowstorm dumped a record 24.8 inches in the city. Mayor Bloomberg says all major roads have been plowed at least once. He adds that roads are still icy and dangerous. He urges residents to use mass transit. Those residents who did use mass transit say they left themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations because of the delays.
Meanwhile, all Brooklyn and city public schools are open and school buses are running. But, Department of Education officials say parents should expect delays. School officials also say after school programs and the new extended 37 and a half minute period at the end of the day will operate as normal.
