A handful of City Council members are refusing to sign a petition that would lift the ban on cell phones in New York City schools.
Councilman James Vacca says he is one of only four council members against lifting the ban. He added that 47 or the 51 members of the council have signed a petition urging Mayor Michael Bloomberg to allow students to carry cell phones in schools as long as they are turned off.
Vacca says it's unrealistic to think students will actually turn their phones off, and he says it will wreak havoc in the classroom.
Vacca is asking the mayor to "stick to his guns on this one."
