Maimonides Medical Center is now equipped with Brooklyn's first pediatric trauma center, according to officials.
The state Department of Health approved the hospital as a trauma center for both pediatric and adult care.
Trauma centers have staff on hand to treat life-threatening injuries.
"We added a group of trauma surgeons and trauma specialists upstairs in the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week," says John Marshall, chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
The hospital will also stock the trauma center with a ready supply of blood so it can quickly be given to patients.
