A state commission is releasing its final plan Tuesday on what hospitals in New York should be eliminated, and it could affect Brooklyn residents.Five hospitals in the city were marked to close, including Brooklyn's Victory Memorial Hospital. The Commission on Healthcare Facilities in the 21st Century says the move would help reduce health care costs across the state and allow other hospitals to thrive. The commission has also suggested merging New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope and New York Community Hospital in Midwood.Governor Pataki (R-NY) would have until December 5 to send the recommendations to the Legislature, which has until the end of the year to reject or accept the plan in its entirety. If the changes are adopted, New York could get federal aid totaling $300 million.Related Information:NYS Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century
