As part of plans to develop its waterfront property, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is offering land to bidders for private development.
Though the yard saw some financial troubles in the 1980s and 90s, there seems to be no trouble now. For the first time ever, yard officials are opening land for bidding to private developers.
The plans to develop the area also include the construction of a new entrance. The old blue wood in the entrance will be stripped off to reveal the original marble gateway that hasn?t been seen since World War II.
Building 28 will also get a makeover. However, builders will be reusing some of the steel and foundation in the building.
Officials say throughout the redevelopment process, it is important that the Navy Yard stays ?green.?
