Brooklyn politicians say they're working on spreading the word about a recent muni-meter law enacted by the New York City Council, as they believe many people are unaware of a parking ticket grace period.

According to the law passed by the City Council recently, drivers can fight parking tickets if it's between five minutes of the time the summons is issued and the time they printed a receipt at the muni-meter. State Sen. Marty Golden (R-Bay Ridge) says the law works for his constituents, as many are senior citizens and it takes them longer to get to and from muni-meters. He and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-Bay Ridge, Staten Island) are raising awareness of the new law to prevent people from paying fines they can get out of.

Golden and Assemblywomen Malliotakis are also pushing for the law to be enacted state-wide so it can take effect by early next year.
