After two pedestrians were killed on Atlantic Avenue this month, residents in Boerum Hill are calling on city officials to prevent any more lives from being lost.
Community leaders say the biggest problem on the roadway is speeding. They say drivers are not abiding by the posted 30 mph speed limit. Many feel that more police officers should enforce the law. Residents want transportation officials to implement a slower traffic light pattern to reduce the chance of speeding. Another solution residents want to see is increased bus service on Atlantic Avenue to deter people from commuting by car.
Department of Transportation officials say they have instrumented many changes on Atlantic Avenue, including long pedestrian crossing times on some streets.
