A colorful procession took to the streets of Bed-Stuy Sunday to celebrate African culture.
The annual Isese Festival, which comes from Nigeria, featured traditional African attire, music and ancestral masquerades.
The Isese Festival started in Yorbaland, said musician and organizer, Chief Ayandah Clarke. He says they brought the idea and understanding of African culture to the New York version of the celebration.
People of all ages were invited as a way to honor their ancestors and teach the next generation about their culture.
"This tradition began long before I came along and I am meaning to carry it on and I'm teaching the people to come behind me to carry on and to honor our heritage and honor our culture and honor our tradition," said Chief Baba Neil Clarke, elder and organizer of the event.
The procession was led by Grammy-award winning musician Chief Ayanda Ifadara Clarke at the Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Center and ended up with a festival in Jackie Robinson Park.
