Black arts and music highlight Fort Greene Juneteenth celebration

Brooklyn residents came together Saturday to celebrate Juneteenth through the arts in Fort Greene.
The second annual celebration of 651 Arts highlighted the role that sounds play in the African American quest toward freedom.
The event was in partnership with Downtown Brooklyn and the Center For Fiction.
The day-long event got started with a panel discussion focused on "Sonic Liberation" in art and Black womanhood.
The celebration then continued with DJ lessons at 300 Ashland Plaza. Then revelers hit the dance floor.
Event organizers said the another goal of the celebration was to empower Black women as sound ambassadors and artists through traditionally African genres of art like jazz and hip hop.
Residents called the now nationally recognized holiday of Juneteenth a definitie reason to celebrate.
