City Board of Elections officials suspended the Brooklyn office chief, Diane Haslett-Rudiano, without pay Thursday, pending a probe into the borough's voter rolls following a slew of complaints during Tuesday's presidential primary voting.
A spokeswoman for the board also said it will cooperate with investigations underway by the offices of the state attorney general and the city comptroller.
The state voter hotline says it received more than 1,000 complaints during the New York primary.
As a result, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer ordered an audit of the city's Board of Elections with the support of Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Stringer says it could be months, or possibly more than a year, before the audit's findings are ready.
Board of Elections members say "these kinds of problems are not all that uncommon" and that "we are going to assume everyone did their job until proven otherwise."
Hundreds of New Yorkers' names were removed from the voters registry, and most didn't find out until attempting to vote.
