House Speaker John Boehner is demanding the reversal of an Obama administration policy requiring church-affiliated organizations to provide employees with access to free birth control.
Boehner has threatened congressional action over the mandate, which he argues is an attack on religious freedom in the country. New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan has also blasted the policy. He told News 12 The Bronx yesterday that government does not have the right to interfere with the teachings of the church.
The White House signaled this week that it's searching for ways to ease concerns of Roman Catholics who say the rule would force them to violate their religious beliefs against contraception.
Several Senate Democrats have said they'll challenge any effort to reverse the policy.
