Wednesday marks 18 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a horrific day that Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is working hard to ensure is never forgotten.
Adams held a remembrance event Tuesday at Borough Hall to honor those who died on Sept. 11, as well as the hundreds who've been diagnosed or died from Sept. 11-related illnesses since.
The family of Detective Luis Alvarez, who worked tirelessly up until his death to get the Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund extended, was also honored.
The family of fallen NYPD Officer Diane Halbran was also honored. The family asked for the city to remember her not for the way she died, but for how she lived.
Moments of silence were held at the moments each tower was struck. The moments, Adams stresses, are not only to remember the pain but also what happened on the days following and the way our country came together.
The names of all 266 Brooklyn resident who died on Sept. 11 are on display outside Borough Hall.
