? Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 14-year-old boy Tuesday night in Brooklyn.
Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Mario Smith on Kingston Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section. Family friend Nikki Floyd says the teen was simply in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
According to Floyd, Smith was outside of a building at around 9:30 p.m. when gunshots rang out. He ran up the block, but was struck in the chest by a bullet. He was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. Standing near a makeshift memorial for the slain teenager, community leaders called for an end to violence.
"There's a strong conviction from this community that they're sick and tired of this craziness,? says Tony Herbert.
Neighbors say they hope surveillance videos from cameras overlooking the crime scene will help investigators identify and bring Smith?s killer to justice.
So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
